The Network Opposed to Bataan Nuclear Power Plant Revival (NO to BNPP Revival!), a broad alliance of individuals, institutions and organizations from different sectors, was launched in February 11, 2009 with NO to BNPP Revival as the main basis for unity. Specifically, the network aims to oppose and campaign against House Bill No. 4631 and Senate Bill No. 2665 which aim to immediately recommission the mothballed Bataan Nuclear Power Plant.
Since the network’s formation in February, campaign activities started to roll. Symposia, forums, signature drives, as well as caravans to Balanga and Morong, Bataan were held.
The proponent of the House Bill, Rep. Mark Cojuangco, has been actively promoting and vows to push for the enactment of HB4631 this year by Congress. This vehemence for the immediacy of recomissioning necessitates bigger actions and more rigorous campaign on the side of the people whose very lives are at stake in this proposed catastrophic bill.
It is in this light that NO to BNPP Revival! is holding a Fund-raising Lugawan on June 5, 2009, Friday, 4-7PM in Balay Kalinaw, UP Diliman, Quezon City. Also in observance of the World Environment Day, we encourage everyone to support this endeavor.
The event will highlight campaign updates and solidarity performances from various artists and friends of the network. Tickets are available at a price of P2000, P1000, P500 and P300. Shirts will be on sale at a discounted price of P120 during the event.
