With the aftermath of the floodings caused by Typhoons Pepeng and Ondoy still fresh in everyone’s minds, people’s organizations and affected communities sat down with scientists to discuss disaster preparedness and its impacts on their lives at AGHAM’s Science for the People Colloquium series held at the Balay Kalinaw in UP Diliman last October 7, 2010 with the theme +gEnsuring Community Disaster
Preparedness Amidst Climate Change.+h It was also a preparatory event for the 10.10.10 Global Work Party held last Sunday.

Remembering ‘Ondoy’

Last Sunday, we joined several groups from Marikina to commemorate the unfortunate events of September 26, 2009. That day, Tropical Storm Ondoy (Ketsana) brought more than a month’s worth of rain across Luzon and inundated Metro Manila and adjoining cities and towns.

Nature will not wait for Copenhagen

This situation was made more clear as Typhoon Ondoy left widespread flooding in many countries, unleashed unprecedented rainfall in Metro Manila and caught a lot of people unprepared both in the Philippines and Vietnam.
