End impunity now! Justice for Leonard Co, Julius Borromeo and Sofronio Cortez!

Letterto the Editor
October 30, 2011

It has been a year since Leonard Co, Julius Borromeo and Sofronio Cortez were blatantly killed by elements of the Philippine Army. Up until now, not a single warrant of arrest or inquest has happened. It is very heartbreaking for those who loved and valued Leonard Co. This culture of impunity which has been haunting our country claimed the life of a national treasure. Leonard was a renowned taxonomist. He dedicated his life to science in service of our nation. Instead of giving him proper awards and citations, he got bullets from whom we call “defenders of peace”.

The truth behind the looming food crisis

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Landed on: http://opinion.inquirer.net/inquireropinion/letterstotheeditor/view/2011...

The April 12 banner headline of PDI entitled Noy warned of Rice Crisis, sent a strong signal to the government, that this is a serious matter that needs timely and appropriate action given that the Philippines has experienced rice crisis in 1995 and 2008. Department of Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala’s displeased response to the alleged report of the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) should not veer away from the reality that the country has gone into a chronic and systemic rice crisis characterized by production shortages, heavy dependence on rice imports, and a market monopolized by a few rice traders.

Politicization of PAGASA will not solve its problems

PRESS STATEMENT

August 7, 2010

The removal of Dr. Prisco Nilo as director of the PAGASA due to “differences” with his “immediate superior” shows that the current government would rather fire the messsenger than upgrade the bureau's capacity to prepare for typhoons and disasters.

Decision to industrialize leads to advances in S&T and not the other way around

This is a response to Mr. Luz's commentary entitled, "Agham," printed last May 8, 2010, where he asserts that the country's low levels of science and math achievement is the culprit behind our inability to develop and maintain a significant industrial base.
